Narrative structure in Relapse

Todorov's narrative structure can easily be applied to our thriller in 3 parts:

-Equilibrium

Although this may not be the audiences equilibrium the main character is in equilibrium as he is on drugs. Restful and slower pace, just sitting on bench and walking around. Calm scene and setting with calm despite disturbed actor.

-Disturbance

The main character kills the female character, this acts as the disturbance in our sequence.

-Final equilibrium despite disturbance

Although in this equilibrium the female is dead and the male unconscious an equilibrium is formed. This is because in the first equilibrium she was not important and so her death does not matter. And also because the pace of the sequence has slowed down again like the start where he is stationary on the bench.
